Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social work or other related field; three or more years’ experience working directly with students with disabilities at an institution of higher education; working knowledge of FERPA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA); demonstrated experience working collaboratively; excellent oral and written communication.

Primary Purpose of Position

To ensure students with disabilities receive reasonable accommodations in a timely manner as defined by the ADA.

Job Description

The primary responsibilities of the Coordinator of Students (Associate Director) are to conduct student intake appointments; review and interpret confidential psycho-educational evaluations and other documents to determine eligibility for services; develop, monitor, adjust, and evaluate individual accommodation plans for students with documented disabilities; maintain student files in Titanium database; and to work with faculty to facilitate reasonable accommodations in the classroom. Additionally, the Coordinator of Students (Associate Director) may need to consult with faculty and staff members to ensure their classes, materials and programs are accessible and provides information about disability-related services and documentation requirements to Administration, faculty, staff, students, parents and community members. The Coordinator of Students (Associate Director) will be the primary contact for coordinating services (interpreters, CART) for deaf and hard of hearing students, faculty, staff and guests of the university and will serve as the advisor to Delta Sigma Omicron (DSO). Other duties may include University committee work, programming designed to advocate for the needs of students with disabilities, co-coordinating the Federal Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) in conjunction with the office of Career Services and other duties as assigned by the Director/ADA Coordinator.

Management Preference

Five or more years’ experience working directly with students with disabilities in an institution of higher education; certification or proficiency in American Sign Language; certification or experience as a life coach; experience with program design, implementation and evaluation; demonstrable understanding of the unique issues involved with the transition of students with disabilities to higher education; working knowledge of current case law and best practices; experience with design, implementation and evaluation of a mentor program.
