A Bachelor’s Degree, plus a minimum of three to five years’ experience in a Financial Aid Office are required. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication, problem solving, and decision making skills are necessary. Strong computer skills, including an ability to extract and organize information from computerized databases needed. Proven success in prior supervisory experience required. A thorough understanding of need analysis; student budgets; federal, state and private aid management issues is necessary. The employee must have the ability to interact with diverse prospective and current students and families, as well as faculty, co-workers and other campus employees.

Office of Financial Aid

Primary Purpose of Position

The Associate Director is an integral member of the management team and is expected to contribute to office decision making processes, provide honest and clear feedback on office policies and procedures and assist with staff development. This position has responsibility for working with the Director of Financial Aid to interpret federal and state regulations and designing associated business processes. The position has direct management of several state grant programs, external scholarship programs, NCAA compliance and awarding of unique student populations. In addition, the Associate Director is responsible for leading the Financial Aid Office in the absence of the Direct of Financial Aid. Responsibilities also include typical financial aid counseling activities. Occasional public speaking is required.

Job Description

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the office and service to students. A customer service minded focus is a primary responsibility of this position. The Associate Director is responsible for the supervision, training, development and accountability of the support and counseling staff. The Associate Director operates under an open door appointment policy and shares some responsibility with the director for all students on financial aid. This position assists in establishing and implementing office policy as well as changes and procedures as directed by federal, state and institutional guidelines. The Associate Director is expected to exercise discretion and independent judgment in carrying out job responsibilities. This position assumes responsibility for the office in the absence of the Director. The Associate Director represents the Office of Financial Aid on a professional level in various activities and on campus-wide committees and professional organizations. This position assists in the process of awarding and confirming financial aid. All other duties as deemed necessary.
