Primary Purpose of Organization Unit

The Printing Department reports to the Director of Business and Auxiliary Services under the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration. It is the only department on campus to provide a wide range of printing services or to determine if off campus printing is more feasible and cost effective . The Printing Department is also responsible for the copier fleet which includes 48 machines in various locations throughout the campus.

Primary Purpose of Position

Manage the day to day operations of the fully operational Printing Department. Maintain all printing equipment and supervise print shop staff. Maintain inventory and budget of the Print Department on a daily basis.

Job Description

The Print Shop Supervisor coordinates, schedules, facilitates and monitors printing and production services for The University of North Carolina at Pembroke; reviews print requests; organizes and implements a production work schedule for processing requests; develops a database and maintains a job log for assigned projects; creates and implements an accountability system for each phase of the production schedule to insure the timely completion and availability of projects; researches, evaluates, and forecasts trends in commercial printing technology and processes; provides direction and support during schedule interruptions to accommodate emergency requests; operates print production equipment; performs monthly safety inspections on equipment; inspects and verifies completed projects meet quality standards; monitors all printing systems to insure appropriate and safe procedures are followed as required by operation manuals; maintains inventory of paper, bindery supplies, toner and other consumables; orders supplies and verifies accuracy of billing; performs other related duties commensurate with the requirements of the print and production department.

Management Preference

Experience or educational background in graphic design or printing technology and hands-on experience working with printing equipment preferred. Business management experience is a plus. Experience in a higher education setting is desired.
